Loki Software - Windows games on Linux
As I was installing Gentoo this last weekend I saw an option to automatically install (emerge) Heroes of Might and Magic III. Astounded that it was listed on Linux I tried it. The installation failed because I didn’t have the original Heroes medium in the cd-rom drive, but I was impressed just the same.
LokiGames.com has done a great job of packaging common Windows games, in many cases legacy games, for Linux deployment. I’ve already played Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri with Loki and it worked perfectly (which is more than I could say for even Tux Racer on my Suse install). Unfortunately, Loki Games closed their doors a few years ago, but if you can find their titles they are well worth the effort. Hopefully someone else soon will follow in Loki’s footsteps to offer quality Windows games on Linux.
